eLECTION Watch 2006 UPDATE 8/01/06
Cavecche Files for Mayor (another reason she is the front runner, she has her act together and is filed). Will she even have a challenger?
Perennial Candidate Serrano-Nieblas (I love this guy, he is a "crack pot") is Back and More Papers Pulled in Orange Council Race
Orange City Council member Carolyn Cavecche made her bid for Orange Mayor official on Tuesday August 1st by filing her papers for the November election. None of the other potential candidates who have taken out papers to run in the race have returned them yet. The filing deadline is August 11th. Pulling papers for the Orange Mayor’s race on Tuesday was perennial candidate and community fixture, Juan Pablo Serrano-Nieblas. In the 1998 mayoral race Nieblas polled 3.6%. In the 2000 race he polled 9.6% and in 2004 his total percentage was 11%.
Also pulling papers for the Orange City Council race was Katie Grant bringing the total possible candidates to 12. Only one candidate has turned in the papers, Darren Smith.
The period to declare candidacy ends August 11 (this is extended until Aug 16th if the incumbent has not filed).
As of AUGUST 1, 2006
Orange City Council
The following have filed and are waiting signature confirmation:
Darren Smith (Officially the front runner...why you ask, because he is the only true candidate with stuff filed and awaiting confirmation).. (Anybody know this guy...chime up, never seen him or heard of him)
The following have pulled papers, but not yet filed:
Jason Lindstrom...another nobody, could this be the year of the unknowns?
Mark Murphy (current Mayor)..I thought he was termed out, oops...loop hole
Mike Merino...Who knows what the little guy will do...I predict if he runs, he may win
Robert Douglas...Like Juan Pablo Serrano-Nieblas, always running for something, but misses the mark.
Dennis Bilodeau (O.C. Water Board) I want to thank a loyal reader for infomation on him...I was pretty hard on the Orange City Council for raising water rates on us, however, it was only because the OC Water, increased its cost to Orange, which is led by Bilodeau..he raised the tax on us and we had no way to fight it. Does he have a chance this time for Council...We shall see.
Fred Whitaker..also another name from the 2004 council race..can he do it...maybe, but will he knock out Murphy, that's the question!
John Caglia...another new guy to the Council Race
Frank Finn...another new guy to the Council Race
Phil Martinez...another new guy to the Council Race, but I have heard he ran for OUSD Board in 2004. Anybody have any info??
Arnold Crain..another new guy to the Council Race
Katie Grant...another new woman to the Council Race
Villa Park City Council
The following have pulled papers, but not filed:
Robert Fauteux (incumbent)..also a writer for the "throwaway paper" Foothill Sentry"
Deborah Pauly..Who?? I have heard the name, never met the woman
Bradley Reese..Again, Who??
James Rheins..Hmmmm, WHO??
Patricia L. Bortle (incumbent/ appointed Mayor)..Somebody I know..a total winner in my books
Orange Mayor
The following have filed and are waiting signature confirmation:
Carolyn Cavecche (current council member)..Again front runner, lead dog
The following have pulled papers, but not filed:
Mike Alvarez (former council member)..I have heard from a realible source that there is serious thought of backing out and running for City Council, and then a try at Mayor in the future...I am disappointed in race, seems very disorganized and is like a viking funeral...a boat sinking in flames.
Mike Merino..I didn't realize he was in the mix for both Council and Mayor...the little guy has spunk...will he follow through, or just fall by the wayside
Juan Pablo Serrano-Nieblas..I love this guy, you can seem him the circle with his Peace not War sign...
Rancho Santiago Trustee Area #2
The following have filed:
John Hanna (current incumbent)
Steve Rocco (OUSD Trustee)..We here at Orange-Politico's are going to endorse Steve Rocco for in this race...not because he is the best candidate, but it will remove him from the OUSD and we can get normal people back in there...this guy is a hoot
Orange Unified School District
The following have filed:
Trustee Area 1:
7/17/06 Melissa Smith (current incumbent)
Governing Board Member, Orange Unified School District Trustee Area 1
7/19/06 Alexia Deligianni (OC Young Republican Director)
Educator
