Orange candidate not out of the woods

Controversial Orange City Council candidate Carol Rudat got out of court with her hide intact earlier this month, having survived a civil suit that tried to get her thrown off the ballot.
But she's not quite out of the woods.

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas has investigators out talking to neighbors about Rudat's residency and is continuing to pursue the case. Will he be done before the Nov. 7 election?
"It's hard to tell," said Rackauckas spokeswoman Susan Schroeder.

Rudat registered to vote in Orange in April, listing a small home there as her residence after living in considerably bigger digs in Newport Beach. Later, campaign spokeswoman Janette Littler said the Orange home was being renovated until July, when Rudat moved in.

Earlier this month, Rudat's attorneys presented utility bills as evidence she lived there when she registered to vote. We'll see if professional investigators try to prove otherwise.

Oddsmakers say Rudat and Denis Bilodeau are vying for the second of two open seats, with Mayor Mark Murphyfavored to come in first.

I must appauld the D.A. office for seeing past the fraud that Carol Rudat is trying to pull on the voters of Orange. I also hope the DA then investigates all those that are connected to the fraud being played out. To those that are running her campaign, her endorsements, and her contracted help.

Chinagirlorange,
Mike Alvarez' statement at the council meeting last night was powerful and, as usual, showed his ability to engage his constituents as the true statesman that he is. Mike is a proud man who viciously defends his families honor, as would any citizen of this community. The negative attacks on his families business---comparing the rental of a 4 bedroom home to 4 Chapman College students to an illegal boarding house was simply a dispicable ploy by Carolyn Cavecche and her henchman, Dan Slater (who, by the way, is also a non-Orange resident)to attempt to stop the leak in their rapidly deflating campaign. I don't believe that Orange wants to ask all of the young people working their way through college to live outside the city limits or risk being cited as a boarding facility that blatently houses illegal immigrants and contributes to all the problems inherent with this situation. I know for a fact that Mike Alvarez is incredibly supportive of college students, is highly respected in the Chapman College community and recently read a letter from a student thanking him for personally supporting his studies.

Also of interest is the piece that came out earlier this week from "Voters for Responsible Government", the slate mail name of political consultant Scott Taylor who is running both Cavecche's and Carol Rudat's campaigns. Self-proclaimed political watchdog Shirley Grindle managed to get her two cents into this piece, referring to a fine of under $3000 that was levied on Mike several years ago because of paying a printing bill out of his own pocket, and not from his campaign account, and lending his campaign his own money? Wow! What a horrible offense! Supervisor Chris Norby was fined $10,000 for campaign indiscretions and no one batted an eye! Its common for candidates to put money into their own accounts, and the rules for acccounting for such change often. Candidates rely on their campaign accountants to keep track of these rules. Shirley Grindle might want to consider putting her powers to better use. By the way, she neglected to tell the voters that she has contributed hundreds of dollars to Cavecche's campaign, so she's hardly unbiased or neutral.

As for the t-shirts, Chinagirl, be sure to stop by and get yours before they're all gone! Mike invited people to bring in negative mail pieces during his last council race, and people loved it! Personally, I'd rather have a free t-shirt than a negative mail piece any day.

And as for your insinuation that Mike has no compassion for the Ambriz family, you should be ashamed of yourself for levying such a low blow relative to the tragic loss of such a wonderful citizen of our community. Mike was a close personal friend of Steve Ambriz, who hosted many of his early fundraising events, and has continued to support Bridget since Steve's untimely death. Mike had an event following his speech at the council meeting (make sure to confirm my word by going to the calendar-www.alvarezformayor.com. Bridget was not only aware of this and spoke to MIke before he left the meeting, but also sent him an email this morning congratulating him on a great speech at the council meeting.

By the way, although I obviously support Mike Alvarez as the next Mayor of the City of Orange, I am friends with Carolyn Cavecche and think she is a fine woman. I just don't think that her work history consisting of being a mom and lack of exposure to the business world make her the best candidate for mayor. I'd love to see her spending the time and energy she spends on politics with her young family

Applaud the DA on pressing charges against Denis Bilodeau as well. He really is a weasel all those flyers out there are right.
