ORANGE - Orange businessman Mike Alvarez filed his candidacy papers today with the City Clerk, officially entering the race for Mayor of Orange in the November 7, 2006, General Election.

Mike Alvarez was elected to two terms, the maximum allowed under city term limits, on the Orange City Council, and served as Mayor Pro Tem, from 1996 to 2004.

My family and I represent three generations in Orange. I am dedicated to protecting the unique character and quality of life we value so highly, Alvarez said. The effects of illegal immigration, unlawful boarding houses, overcrowding, and severe traffic congestion must be controlled before they erode our great City, Alvarez stated. As Mayor of Orange, I'll provide proven experience, a clear vision, and a higher standard of leadership to resolve problems and secure a positive future for our residents and the City, declared Alvarez.

Alvarez is running on his record as a fiscal conservative who voted to strengthen public safety, oppose new taxes or fees, and for strict taxpayer accountability.

Alvarez's family founded the Army-Navy Store in Orange in 1955. Mike Alvarez served on the Planning Commission, Chamber of Commerce, the Orange Senior Center, and as President, Friends of the Orange Public Library. # # #
